happy world card making day!

Its almost the end of the day, of World Card Making Day that is, and I'm just squeezing in some crafty time to be part of the festivities.  Here's a card that I made.  It reflects exactly how I'm feeling today.

I will be entering this card to the Moxie Fab World Challenge, where we used this photo as inspiration...I was inspired by the colors and the layout.  I liked especially how rainbow colors were part of the clock, yet the colors didn't necessarily follow ROYGBIV order.  I tried to incorporate that into my card.

Today, while many of my crafty colleagues spent the day making beautiful creations, I had to work.  I'm not complaining -- I really love my job -- but, I do wish that I got to spend time getting crafty.  During my lunch break, I checked out my blog and instagram feeds and had to pick up my jaw from the floor several times.  The #WCMD posts, new releases, and cards that I saw were just so amazing!  I'm getting so excited to make cards for the holidays.

So, this card goes to the wonderful friends that I have made in this warm and supporting cardmaking community.  Thank you for teaching me, inspiring me, and encouraging me to create.  Happy World Card Making Day:)

moxie fab world's fabulous friday - getting fancy

I'm playing along with the following challenge: Moxie Fab World's Fabulous Friday: Getting Fancy!  Here's the inspiration photo.

My co-worker asked me to make her some thank you cards to send to her friend's family that generously hosted her during her trip to Hawaii last week.  I'm all about showing gratitude, so I was happy to take on this project.  I picked some of the colors from the Moxie Fab photo, thought about all the pretty flowers in Hawaii, and made this...

Initially my card only had 7 flowers, but I kept getting my inky fingers all over, so had to fussy cut even more flowers to cover the splotches up:)

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you have a great week:)

Supplies:
Stamps: Mama Elephant Water Blooms
Inks: Delicata (golden glitz); Memento Luxe (love letter, pear tart, sweet plum); Versamark (onyx black)

another star

I don't have TV service so I missed the Grammys, but I did catch the collaboration between Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk and my favorite artist, Stevie Wonder.  Since then, I've had Stevie Wonder's "Another Star" song replaying in my head.  One of the lyrics has this beautiful line...

I'm entering this card into the Constellations: Trendy Star Power Challenge in the Moxie Fab World, where we are incorporating constellations and/or stars into our designs.

And yes, I did play the game "How many different stamp sets can I fit in one card".  Hehehe!

Thanks for taking a look.  Keep on shining!

loved you yesterday, love you still...

...always have, always will.

I'm entering this card into the Constellations: Trendy Star Power Challenge in the Moxie Fab World, where we are incorporating constellations and/or stars into our designs. There's still time to show your star power, so come and join the fun!

When I was home in California earlier this month, while crafting at my sister's house, I spotted a jar full of these fantastic wood veneer stars.  I also found sheets of these pearly round sticker things.  Lastly, I found a big roll of that post-it labeling tape, which is perfect for masking...I knew I had to use them.

I honestly can't seem to put away my Mama Elephant Cosmic Stars set.  I just want to pinch the little characters, they're so darn cute.

My color choices were inspired by Mama Elephant's photo inspiration challenge.  There's still time to play along!
Thanks for taking a look!

Supplies:
Stamps: Mama Elephant Cosmic Stars and XOXO
Inks: Copic markers; Tim Holtz Distress Inks (picked raspberry, spun sugar); Versamark (watermark)

golden lady

This card is a belated birthday wish for my friend, Shino, a super-talented photographer, cook, healthy living expert, and all-around beautiful person.  She is the wife of one of my first NYC friends, whom I met on the dance floor...come to think of it, I've met most of my NYC friends on the dance floor:)

Tomorrow, my friend is off to Japan to spend time with Shino, who traveled ahead of him.  I'm sending him off with this card along with some goodies from my job at Jacques Torres Chocolate.  Yum!

I created this card for the All that Glitters is Gold Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  I decided to give the "washaker" (washi tape + shaker) card a try.  I first saw a washaker card on JJ Bolton's website, where she said she learned it from Donna Mikasa, who referenced a tutorial by Julie Ebersole ...I'm not sure who came up with the technique, but I do know that I have much respect from all the ladies I listed:)

The backstory to the "Hello Golden Lady" sentiment is kinda funny.  Last weekend at work, a customer dropped a box of caramels on the ground.  The box busted open, so we deemed the item unsellable and gave the caramels out as samples.  There was a strip of gold cardstock in the box that my manager was about to throw away, when she handed it over to me.  "I bet you can do something with this," she said half jokingly, given that I look at a lot of stuff we throw away and brainstorm all sorts of things we can do to repurpose it (e.g., plastic bags, acetate, cardboard).  So me being me, I took on the challenge.  The "hello" and the stars are made from the caramel box gold cardstock.

And, "Golden Lady"?  It's a song by Stevie Wonder that Shino sang to me on my 35th birthday.  At my birthday dinner, all me friends took turns grabbing the wooden spoon from the pitcher of sangria and sang me a song...because well, that's how we do.

Happy belated birthday, Shino!  Hope you're having a fabulous time back home.  Love ya, sis!
