hello darling

It's Valentine's week, one of the busiest times of the year when you work at a chocolate shop.  I still had some time to make some cards though, and this one will be linked to the Card Concept (use monochromatic pink), Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge (have a heart), and CAS-ual Fridays (over the edge).

This clean and simple card is for my aunt.  She's the youngest of all my mom's siblings, the baby of the family if you will, so we call her Auntie Baby.  She's a retired nurse who helped deliver many, many, many babies.  How fitting to have a cute teddy bear on her card from Mama Elephant's Nursery Deco stamp set.

Wishing my aunt and everyone a happy Valentine's Day!  Thanks for stopping by.

Supplies:
Stamps: Mama Elephant (Nursery Deco, Party Kit, Filigree)

butterfly puzzle

I'm joining the fun at the CAS(E) this Sketch and Runway Inspired Challenges with this butterfly thank you card:

I recently saw a video by Laura Bassen (here), where she glued a bunch of small die-cuts from a larger die.  The effect was so cool and well worth the time and effort, so I decided to try the same thing with my butterfly die.

Piecing the wing bits together back together into the intricate butterfly frame was oddly enjoyable...honestly, it reminded me of one of my favorite games as a child: Operation!!!

Finished my card off with a label from the DYMO label maker I "borrowed" from my sister;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Inks: Memento Luxe (lilac posies, nautical blue); Delicata (golden glitz)
Die: Simon Says Stamp Devonshire Butterfly
Other: Wink of Stella glitter brush (clear); DYMO label maker

coffee and donuts

I am thrilled to be the guest designer at CASology this week.  Wow, what an honor!

This week's cue word is "and", which of course gave me the opportunity to make one of those witty "we go together like..." cards.  I pulled out my stash of food stamps and came up with this:

Really though, who doesn't love coffee and donuts?  It's a bit dangerous that there are three Dunkin' Donuts shops within a 5 minute walk from my place.

***Edited to add: I miscounted.  There are actually four Dunkin' Donut shops within a 5 minute walk from my place.  Yikes!

I kept my card clean and simple by using a minimal color scheme and just a few embellishments.  Hope you like it, and hope it didn't make you too hungry:)

Come play along with us at CASology and have a fun time!!!

Supplies:
Stamps: Purple Onion Designs Coffee & Tea Set; WPlus9 Milk & Cookies
Inks: Copic markers, Memento (tuxedo black)

thinking of you

This card is being entered into the CASE Study challenge, where our wonderfully talented muse for the month has been Donna Mikasa.  Here's my take...

...on Donna's beautiful card.

In addition to the inspiration I got from Donna's card, I was compelled to make this card because I've been thinking a lot about Philip Seymour Hoffman.  Hearing about his death yesterday made me want to reach out to everyone I know who is struggling right now.

My Facebook feed was full of Philip Seymour Hoffman posts.  My friend played an extra in one of PSH's movies and commented about how genuine and down to earth he was.  A friend of a friend was PSH's dorm roommate at NYU and commented about how focused he was.  And another friend and PSH were members of the same off-Broadway company and was struggling with the news.

I didn't know him, but I have a great PSH story that makes me laugh whenever I tell it.  At the chocolate store where I work, there is a regular customer who is a PSH-look-alike.  He comes in at least once a week to buy 8 cookies.  One day he came in and I asked him if he wanted his regular order, to which he nodded, paid, and went about his way.  About an hour later, he came back and I got out the words "back for m...?" (almost saying "back for more?") when I realized it was THE Philip Seymour Hoffman.  He asked for just one cookie, and right when I was going to tell him that I admired his work, I got the feeling that he wanted to go unnoticed.  So, I kept my cool and gave him his cookie.  We exchanged smiles, and he went on his way.  And, that's how I'll remember him.

This card will also be linked to CAS-ual Friday's Over the Edge challenge.

Take care and thank you for stopping by.
